Being active in the middle of the site with the enthusiastically orotund voice, devoted to the work and to the co-workers, Mr. Kien Van Bui, a field engineer who is about to turn 60 but looks like a guy full of energy, always desires to devote all his efforts to each item that he undertakes on the site

Being assigned by SCI En&C leaders to take charge of the blasting team at Namtheun 1 hydropower project, Mr. Kien spent 3 years working for the project in this Laos friend country. This Engineer born in 1960 managed and allocated work for 11 drillers, 15 miners in 03 shifts a day. The working day started from 5h30 AM and ended by 23h00 PM when he returned to the camp from the site. Indeed, in the early morning, he deliberated the series of methods to make holes and create edges on each drill under the right abutment, and then, at noon, he was consistant to inject the blasting powder together with the miners on the Quarry or on the AL14 route which was being expanded at the site.
Confided by this Hoa Binh originated Engineer, despite of his many years of the blasting related work at the site, he was still very meticulous and careful with his workers who were guided to check sufficient amount of blast drug to avoid compensation of shortcreting or use of many drilling bits during the work”. Besides digging exploding thoroughly, Mr. Kien’s team must drill and shotcrete to assure the flatness of slop and protected it from subsidence. It was difficult to arrange the the work performed smoothly; however, the thunder and lightening rain also affected on the life of blasting workers. So, all were required to be in best ready mind when the weather was dry and “quick action, quick completion” when it was rainy. Thus, it was easier for Mr. Kien’s team to perform the work in the dry season than in the rainy months as presently. However, their work was only ended at as late as 22h-23h pm when the drillers transferred their shifts and the blasting team was preparing for the explosion.

Going along with Mr. Kien for the site progress track, we did not think that he was turning to 60 because the stories he told us seem remained full beat of each drill, each gram of blasting agent, each centimeter of flatness upon applying the shotcrete…Not only his his passion and thoroughness to work, he was always adored by his vast knowledge on the life issues. Joining with him to anywhere he dropped we were observed people greeting “Teacher Kien”, we felt wondering and were replied that the teacher was so funny and knowledgeable. As for the blasting, he was known as Master. The construction technique instructed by him was always correct, closed without being redone.
Graduated from the University of Minning and Geotechnology in 1985, the Engineer Kien has worked for many big projectsas Hoa Binh hydropower plant, Son La Hydropower, Lai Chau Hydropower…After joining SCI home in 2010, Mr Kien, together with the Company, has undergone many big and small projects that were undertook by the Company. Nearly 10 years of binding to SCI, he is so happy because he and his co-workers are building the stronger Company day and night. He believe that, in the coming time, SCI E&C will be expanded in which more and more big domestic and foreighn Employers and Contractors shall choose SCI as the partner.
