SCI E&C staff at the group of Nam Lum project are rushing the final works. Many equipment, materials and human resources have been mobilized to Nam Lum 1 and Nam Lum2 Hydropower Plants in order to reach the completion date while ensuring the Projects’ quality as committed with the Employer.
SCI E&C JSC experienced several challenges as the EPC general contractor on the group of Nam Lum Projects due to the complex mountainous terrain and abnormally changing environment during the last two years. There are times when the site suffers sustained heavy rain or low temperature under 5oC, the work progress must be suspended. However, in order to meet the targeted deadline, SCI E&C has finished the major works, including main dam, powerhouse, and Chiron auxiliary dam. All teams of SCI E&C at the two Projects are now at the tunneling phase, finishing the permanent protection in line with required design specifications and finishing the headrace tunnel from the main dam to tunnel.
According to one of our engineer named Vu Duc Trong - Project Technical Planning Department, Lai Chau is presently entering the rainy and flooded months, therefore construction workers are utilizing the sunny days to expedite the completion of pending works. The headrace channel at Nam Lum 1 HEP is designed at 157m long, with a total length of tunnel as 2,060m. The upper horizontal tunnel of Nam Lum 2 hHEP is designed with 3,682m long, while the headrace tunnel as 253m long. These works are executed with high focus spirit due to the strict requirements of fulfilling occupational safety regulations as well as severe technical specifications. Mr.Trong who mentioned above also express that the waterway of this Project will be expected to complete in August.
Concurrent with the construction of tunnel works, the teams of SCI E&C are also arranging the interconnection with national 110kV transmission line in the Nam Lum 2 HEP region, as well as erecting hydro-mechanical equipment for Unit 1 and Unit 2 at Nam Lum 1 HEP. The manpower are also mobilized to focus on the completion of permanent roads as well as other infrastructures.
The group of Nam Lum Hydropower projects is invested with total budget of nearly 1,000 billion VND including 2 plants. Nam Lum 1 HEP is installed with designated capacity as 8MW and Nam Lum 2 HEP is installed with designated capacity as 18 MW. These plants are located in Ban Lang and Dao San communes, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province. SCI E&C is selected as the EPC Contractor. At completion and puting into operation, Nam Lum 1 HEP will annually feed to the national power grid more than 30 million KWh and the number with Nam Lum 2 HEP is expected as 68 million KWh. These are considered as key hydropower projects in Northwest region that shall contribute to stabilize the power grid in Northern Midlands and Mountains.
At the time of operation, the system of roads servicing the construction and operation of works would also generate the potentiality of commercial and social exchanges in the region of Ban Lang and Dao San communes with other socio-economic centers in Phong Tho district. Furthermore, Nam Lum 1 and 2 Hydropower Plants are planned to contribute to the national budget as well as settle the employment to workers in this area.
With many years of hydropower construction expertise, SCI E&C believes that we will complete the group of Nam Lum HEP projects on time and with the best quality as committed with the Employer in the coming September.
