If you come to Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province these days, surely everyone can help but shiver because of the cold closing to 0oC. However, on the SCI construction site, the employees are still busy with drawings, vibrant with machines breaking the cold air.
With the appearance of a strong enterprise in hydropower design and construction, SCI Group executing the Nam Lum 1 Hydropower Project, Nam Lum 2 Hydropower Project and Nam Xe Hydropower Project has changed the infrastructure here. The works located in the mountainous districts of Phong Tho, Lai Chau province have been identified by SCI Group as the key to supplement the human resources, dispatching materials and construction vehicles from the beginning of 2022.
For this reason, the coldness seems not to reduce the 'key' spirit of the staff here. At 5:45 a.m. on the high mountain, when it is still foggy at night, SCI engineers prepared their clothes for the new day's work to be performed at the construction site. The pass from the housing area to the construction site nearly 30km away is bumpy mixed with mud but the officers are ensured not to be late.
In the coldness closing to 0oC, one engineer said that they are always in the mood of people who want to go to many places and know many things, so coming to remote areas like this place is also an interesting experience in the lives of their life.
At the Nam Lum 1 site where the final stage of concreting completion for the head dam, we found urgency caused the engineers’ ignorance of the coldness of the mountainous region here. The protective hands are still knitting steel quickly, each turn of cranes reaching for concrete buckets, long lines of trucks hurrying through the fast-flowing stream to transport materials to the dam blocks that are entering the mould.
The Engineer Lo Van Thum in charge of the safety protection said 'The main dam is nearly 1,000m high above sea level and will be completed by the end of March, so we are making great efforts. Because we have worked together for a long time, like brothers from the same family, there are no problems on cold rainy days. All are for achieving the goal to reach the destination on time.
SCI Group has constructed many hydroelectric projects in all regions. But perhaps only in Phong Tho Lao Chau, the hills, rapids, and cold winds mixed together could be felt the most clearly like this by the engineers and workers.
Seeing them getting ready for a new day in the frost, we felt like we were getting more warmth when we went on a field trip to this project in this stormy and cold border area. On the way back, everyone in the delegation admired the engineers and 'soldiers' of SCI in the border areas.
