On July 24, 2023, the EPC Contractor - SCI Group has completed the last RCC (Rolled Compacted Concrete) blocks at the main dam of Nam Sam 3 HEP, marking an important contribution to expedite the construction progress of the entire project.
The main dam is constructed by RCC technology with total concrete volume of approx. 1mio. cubic meters and designed at the height of 121.70m, the dam crest length of 321.40m, and the dam crest elevation of 604.70m. The concrete is placed with the first blocks in June 2021 and executed in 25 months consecutively with an average speed of 2,200m3 per normal day up to 4,100m3 per peak one.
To meet the targeted schedule, hundreds of engineers and workers at the construction site have worked day and night, overcoming difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic and many challenges worldwide so far. SCI Group possesses the technology and equipment for RCC execution, utilizes a synchronous line from production to transportation including crushing plant, batching plant, conveyor belt, etc. During the construction process, we always manage the works closely with the participation of French dam experts, and Owner’s Engineer to monitor and assess the concrete quality stage by stage.
After finishing RCC work at the main dam, over 96% of the headworks volume is completed. We shall continue to execute other works on the dam surface such as breakwater, drainage system, lighting system and other structures to achieve the reservoir water filling in October 2023.
The completion of RCC work once again affirms that SCI has been performing well the role of EPC for large hydropower projects with the assurance of safety, quality, and progress.
