SCI GROUP proudly to contribute the target of “net-zero” carbon dioxide emission achievement

More than two years ago, SCI Joint Stock Company has completed the investment, construction, and installation of 46 wind turbines at 7 wind farms in the area of Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province. This is recorded as evidence of our higher-level achievement and business capability when going along with Vietnamese Government in building up clean renewable energy industry as well as eliminating greenhouse gas emissions.

At the end of 2021, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the meeting of the COP26 Global Climate Summit organized in Scotland confirmed: Vietnam shall develop and implement measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to achieve “net-zero emission" by 2050.

Aware of being a Vietnamese corporate, our Chairman of SCI Group – Mr. Nguyen Cong Hung has implemented construction of clean energy and renewable energy projects. This is currently considered as a prerequisite measure in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As one of the leaders in approaching updated technology while the global wind power industry is developing rapidly, SCI Group has been striving for taking the advantage of natural wind potentiality. Since 2019, SCI Group has participated in the business of clean energy from the step of survey investigation, design consultancy, construction of met masts to the step of construction and installation at wind power projects in the role of EPC Contractor.

Although being a key corporate specializing in design and construction, our Deputy General Director Mr. Pham Van Nghia has advised that SCI Group has encountered many obstacles while shifting to renewable energy industry. Since in wind power industry, the selection of large size Turbine with high hub-height and blade diameter shall cause to many challenges. Firstly, the capacity of seaports must be considered when importing equipment from overseas. The second is the transportation of super-long and super-heavy components via mountainous and complex terrain in Huong Hoa district. Indeed, if once seeing the wind power field at this place, most people will be overwhelmed by the highness between the mountains and hills of the turbines. In order to complete these challengeable projects, SCI Group’s staffs have gone through an extremely hard process with the co-joining in efforts of many company’s departments.

At 7 projects with a total of 46 turbines, the hub height of each turbine is known as 110m. On average, each turbine might weigh 110 tons, therefore, the total weight of these 46 turbines shall be 5,060 tons. While each blade is recorded with nearly 68m long and 24 tons weighed, the total weight of all blades is 3,312 tons. In addition, the total weight of generators accounts for about 2,668 tons if each generator weighs 58 tons. Summing up the weight of main equipment of 7 projects, it has reached 11,040 tons that is considered as a huge volume of transportation.

More importantly, the construction and installation of wind turbines at the site requires extremely strict management process with skilled technical staff and solid occupational safety regulations. Along with the above challenges is the widespread Covid-19 epidemic causing social distancing and global supply chain breaking, the transportation of equipment for projects in Huong Hoa district is also interrupted. However, with a team of engineers and workers who have been known as hard-working and creative to adapt the challengeable construction process, 46 turbines at 7 farms were surveyed, imported, consulted, installed, and constructed rapidly by SCI Group. SCI E&C Joint Stock Company (a subsidiary of SCI Group) is working as the EPC Contractor of Gelex 1, Gelex 2, Gelex 3, Huong Linh 7, Huong Linh 8, Huong Phung 2, Huong Phung 3 has successfully completed projects timely with the total capacity of 195.2 MW.

The above projects all use gearless wind turbines (capacity of 4.2 MW each) manufactured and supplied by Enercon GmbH (Federal Republic of Germany). This is the corporate ranking in the top of most advanced global wind power equipment suppliers till date with the advantage of offering large capacity curve, impressive ability to generate power at low wind speeds (cut-in wind speed 2 m/s). The modern technology imported directly from Germany has also allowed 3 projects including Gelex 1, Gelex 2, Gelex 3 to be controlled under the model of a centralized control center (OCC) that helps to save investment costs. That is an affirmation of SCI Group's sustainable orientation with clean renewable energy in the coming time.

The leaders of Huong Hoa District People's Committee affirmed that SCI Joint Stock Company is a highly appreciated and responsible developer and constructor. Despite of implementing 7 major projects at the same time, SCI Group has closely coordinated with local authorities at all levels from the very beginning to the present, ensuring the committed schedule. Besides, the district leaders also expressed their thankfulness to SCI Joint Stock Company for our meaningful social security support assigned to the local people and organizations in the district.

According to the sharing of our Chairman of BOD, SCI Group is accelerating the process of restructuring, realizing our strategic goals and visions with the orientation of an enterprise investing in sustainable development industry. In particular, the clean renewable energy will continue to be a key business in our development strategy with the orientation of focusing on large-scale projects, and at the same time, aiming to cooperate with major developers in all over the world. SCI Group is very proud to co-join with other companies in contributing the building-up of Vietnam with the aim of “net zero” emission achievement soonest.
